Cape Verde made history on Monday as they qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the very first time after defeating Eswatini 3-0 in their final Group D game in the African qualifiers, Afrosport reports.
The tiny island nation came into this game two points clear of Cameroon at the top and got the required win thanks to goals from Dailon Livramento, Willy Semedo and Stopira while the Indomitable Lions missed out by finishing second after a goalless draw at home with Angola.
Cape Verde are the sixth African team to qualify for next year’s World Cup in North America after Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Ghana.
In the other Group D game, Mauritius and Libya played out a goalless draw, likewise the Group B clash between South Sudan and Togo while Lesotho defeated Zimbabwe 1-0 in Group C.

In Group H, table toppers Tunisia finished with a 3-0 win over Namibia, Sao Tome and Principe defeated Malawi 1-0 while Equatorial Guinea and Liberia played out a 1-1 draw.
