2026 WCQ: Benin’s Mounie fires warning to Super Eagles ahead of decisive clash in Uyo

Benin captain Steve Mounie says the Cheetahs are fully prepared for their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Uyo on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.

Gernot Rohr’s men sit top of Group C with 17 points from nine matches, following their narrow 1-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali on Friday.

The Cheetahs must avoid defeat to book their spot at next year’s World Cup. Nonetheless, a stalemate against Nigeria could still see them qualify if South Africa fail to win against Rwanda.

Mounie, who plays for Alayanspor in Turkey, said the team is ready to give everything to secure their World Cup ticket and make history.

“We play football for this kind of match. It will be a historic meeting. We will give everything to take Benin to the World Cup,” the 31-year-old striker said

The crucial match will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with kick-off set for 5 p.m. local time.
