2026 WCQ: Algeria become fourth African team to seal spot in finals

CHAN 2024: Algeria thump co-hosts Uganda in Kampala

Algeria became the fourth team to book an automatic spot in the finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following their 3-0 win over Somalia in Group G on Thursday, Afrosport reports.

The Desert Foxes needed to bag all three points in Oran which they did courtesy of goals from Riyad Mahrez and Mohamed Amoura (brace), and have joined North African rivals, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt in sealing their place in next year’s finals.

The Algerians are four points clear of Uganda who defeated Botswana 1-0 in the other Group G game while Guinea defeated Mozambique 2-1 away from home.

In other results on Thursday, Kenya got the better of 10-man Kenya with a 1-0 win over Burundi in Bujumbura while Liberia recorded a 3-1 win over Namibia in Monrovia.
