2026 WCQ: Alexander-Arnold dropped as Tuchel names England squad for September matches

England head coach Thomas Tuchel on Friday unveiled his 24-man squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, Afrosport reports.

The German has left out Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold from the squad and handed first-time call-ups to Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson and Tottenham full-back Djed Spence.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was on the bench during Madrid’s 3-0 win at Real Oviedo in La Liga on Sunday. The 26-year-old moved to Spain from Liverpool this summer and misses out on an England call-up, having being named to Tuchel’s previous teams.

Meanwhile, Anderson and Spence will be itching to make their respective debuts, while regulars like Harry Kane, Jordan Pickford, John Stones and Declan Rice all earned a call-up.

Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford and Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton have been recalled, while veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson keeps his spot after featuring in three of Tuchel’s four games in charge. Morgan Gibbs-White is also included, but Kyle Walker, Phil Foden and Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney are all omitted. Tino Livramento and John Stones return to the fold after absences under the German coach.

Notable omissions include Harry Maguire, Kyle Walker, Ivan Toney and Phil Foden. The quartet of Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill all miss out through injury.

England host Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday, 6 September, marking the senior team’s first appearance at the stadium since a goalless draw with the Netherlands in 2005. They then travel to Belgrade to face Serbia on Tuesday, 9 September.

The Three Lions currently top Group K with three wins in as many games, but they lost 3-1 to Senegal in their most recent match at the City Ground on 10 June.
