2025 Ballon d’Or: Nnadozie, Bounou up for best goalkeeper awards

2024 CAF Awards: Nnadozie named Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for second straight time

Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie is up for Women’s Yachine Trophy as organisers of the 2025 Ballon d’Or unveiled the nominees on Thursday, Afrosport reports.

The award is given to the best female goalkeeper in the world and will be presented at the 2025 Ballon d’Or, scheduled for Monday, 22 September, at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France.

Nnadozie, the reigning African Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, has starred for both the Super Falcons and Paris FC over the last year.

She helped Nigeria claim a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco last month, keeping four clean sheets on the way to being crowned the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper will face stern competition from England’s Hannah Hampton, who helped the Lionesses defend their Women’s Euro 2025 title. Also up for the honour are Ann-Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, and Daphne van Domselaar.

Meanwhile, in the men’s category, Morocco’s Yassine Bounou has been nominated for the 2025 Yachine Trophy.

The Al-Hilal goalkeeper kept 16 clean sheets in 49 games last season, including two at the Club World Cup, where he put up a spirited performance in their stunning win over Manchester City.

The 34-year-old will battle Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper and Champions League winner Gianluigi Donnarumma, reigning Premier League champion Alisson Becker as well as other past winners Thibaut Courtois and Emiliano Martinez.
